Gazipur, Aug 24 (V7N) – Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, advisor to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, has called for a reduction in the cost of road construction in Bangladesh, noting that it is significantly higher than in neighboring countries. He emphasized the need to curb corruption in the sector and to promote alternative modes of transport, including railways, rivers, and air.

The remarks were made as he inaugurated the 18-kilometer Dhaka Bypass Expressway in the Bhogra area of Gazipur metropolis at around 11 am on Sunday (August 24).

“Roads are a major area of corruption. If this corruption is reduced and if the country’s engineers properly supervise projects, it is possible to reduce the cost of road construction by 20 to 30 percent. Dependence on roads must be reduced, and other transportation methods must be promoted,” he said.

The advisor also stressed the need to build bypass roads in Dhaka to alleviate traffic congestion. He highlighted that construction technology must improve to prevent roads from deteriorating annually, noting that Chinese contractors are involved in the current project.

He added that the government has long neglected river, rail, and air transport, but the Ministry is now developing a multi-level plan that integrates all modes of transport to ensure balanced and sustainable development.

The inauguration was attended by Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Nazmul Karim Khan, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, and officials from the Ministries of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Road Transport and Bridges, and Railways.
