Dhaka, Sep 01 (V7N) – The government is determined to hold the next national elections in February, despite differences among political parties regarding state reforms, said Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday, Dr. Nazrul expressed optimism that the disagreements would be resolved in due course. “The government is committed to holding elections in February. The Chief Advisor has repeatedly made this clear, and the Election Commission has already been instructed accordingly. Steps are being taken to that end,” he said.
Commenting on recent speculations over the army chief’s meetings with the Chief Advisor and the President, the legal advisor said, “The Army Chief occasionally meets the Chief Advisor and the President. This is nothing unusual. Rumors circulating on social media regarding these meetings and a so-called state of emergency are baseless.”
When asked about speculation over the Army Chief meeting the Chief Justice, Dr. Nazrul dismissed it as “rumor only.”
The legal advisor further noted that law and order has fluctuated over the past year, especially in the aftermath of the mass uprising. “Some unrest in society after such a major political shift is not unusual, however sad or disappointing. We have faced such situations before, and stability has eventually returned. The same will happen again,” he said.
Meanwhile, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman held separate meetings with President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Monday. He first met the President and later the Chief Advisor.
