CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, May 7, (V7N) – Opposition Chief Whip and National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam today urged all quarters, irrespective of political affiliation, to ensure that universities remain free from politicisation.
Speaking during a courtesy meeting with Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan at 7:30 pm, Nahid Islam said: “If universities are not strong, other state institutions also cannot function properly. Freedom of expression must be ensured, and care must be taken to ensure that universities are not politicised.”
The meeting discussed issues including the academic environment, campus discipline, student safety, research, and the improvement of higher education standards. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan sought cooperation from all stakeholders to make the university’s administrative and academic activities more dynamic, stressing collective efforts to raise CU to a “unique level of success.”
Nahid Islam highlighted the need for increased budget allocations for universities and more funding for research in the upcoming budget. He recalled the role of CU students during the July mass uprising and praised the natural beauty of the campus. He also expressed hope for resolving the housing crisis, strengthening ties with local residents, and improving education quality.
Present at the meeting were NCP South Region Chief Organiser and MP for Cumilla-4 Hasnat Abdullah, Joint Chief Organizer Jubairul Hasan Arif, CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Proctor Prof. Dr. Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy, and CUCSU Vice-President Ibrahim Hossain Rony, among others.
