Dhaka, Aug 24 (V7N): Over the past three days, at least 18 people have lost their lives across seven districts in Bangladesh due to sudden flooding, affecting nearly 5 million people in 11 districts, according to Kamrul Hasan, the secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

During a press conference held at the Secretariat on Saturday, Hasan provided updates on the ongoing flood situation.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre's (FFWC) latest bulletin, as of 9am on Saturday, reported that six rivers in the southeastern and northeastern regions are currently flowing above the danger level. These rivers include the Kushiyara, Manu, Khowai, Gumti, Muhuri, and Feni.

Specifically, the Kushiyara River is flowing 14 cm above the danger mark at Amalshid, 1 cm at Sheola, 9 cm at Sherpur-Sylhet, and 4 cm at Markuli. The Manu River is 91 cm above the danger level at Moulvibazar, the Khowai River 44 cm above at Ballah, the Gumti River 96 cm above at Comilla, and the Feni River 53 cm above the danger mark at Ramgarh.
