Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – Officials from Bangladesh Betar, the country's oldest electronic mass media platform, recently gathered to discuss the potential revival of its Urdu service. The meeting took place last Thursday, as confirmed by a Betar representative.

The announcement was posted on Bangladesh Betar's website at 11 AM on Thursday, with the notice having been uploaded the evening before. When queried about the meeting's outcome, Mohammad Salahuddin, the additional director general (programmes), stated, "No final decision has been made yet. We cannot comment until a decision is reached. Once it is finalized, it will be approved by the director general and forwarded to the ministry before any formal announcement."

The meeting was convened in response to a request submitted on September 10 by A Salam, representing listed artistes, seeking the reactivation of the Urdu service at the Foreign Service Office. The notice, signed by Betar Director Shahnaj Begum, confirmed that the additional director general had called the meeting to address this request.

Department heads from program, engineering, and message branches, along with unit leaders from headquarters and other centers in Dhaka, were instructed to attend the meeting promptly.

Currently, Bangladesh Betar's external services department broadcasts five hours of daily programming in Bengali, English, Arabic, Hindi, and Nepali. These broadcasts can be accessed via shortwave (4750 kHz, 63.16 metres), a mobile app, and the Betar website.

The objective of these services is to enhance Bangladesh's global image, highlight government development initiatives, and showcase the country's rich history, heritage, and culture. This specialized unit plays a vital role in fostering cultural ties with other nations and sharing Bangladesh’s narrative with expatriates and international audiences in the Middle East, Europe, and South Asia, acting as an audio ambassador for the nation.
