Dhaka, Mar 03 (V7N) — The government has decided to provide a 25 percent discount on train and metro fares for students, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens over 65 years of age, Minister for Road Transport, Railways and Shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam announced on Tuesday (March 3).

The minister noted that the fare discount will take some time to be implemented, as necessary preparations are being made to operationalize the scheme.

Sheikh Rabiul Alam also reassured the public that there is no plan to increase bus fares during the upcoming Eid travel period. He said authorities have made all necessary arrangements to ensure smooth travel for passengers.

In addition, the minister stated that monitoring in the transport sector has been strengthened to maintain normal and safe operations during the Eid journey. Relevant agencies have been given instructions to ensure the safety and convenience of all travelers.
