Dhaka, Apr 30 (V7N) — Detectives in the capital have arrested four individuals on suspicion of involvement with extremist groups, seizing firearms, ammunition, explosives, and surveillance equipment during coordinated raids in Kamrangirchar and Keraniganj.

The operation was carried out by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB), which claimed the suspects were planning acts that could threaten national security, public safety, and sovereignty.

The arrested individuals were identified as Imran Chowdhury (29), Mostakim Chowdhury (25), Ripon Hossain Sheikh (28), and Abu Bakkar (25). Imran and Mostakim are brothers from Madhabpur in Habiganj district, while Ripon is from Raninagar in Naogaon, and Abu Bakkar is a resident of Kamrangirchar in Dhaka.

According to police, the expedition began late Monday night and continued into মঙ্গলবার afternoon. Imran was arrested at around 3:05 a.m. from a residence near Tara Mosque in Kamrangirchar. Mostakim was detained at approximately 5:45 a.m. from Zianagar in Keraniganj. Later, at around 8:55 a.m., Ripon and Abu Bakkar were arrested near the Shikson Bridge area in Rasulpur, Kamrangirchar.

Law enforcement officials reported the recovery of two firearms, ammunition, drone equipment, explosives, extremist literature, and military-style clothing. Authorities believe the dress may be linked to Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), a Myanmar-based armed group. Investigators are also examining possible connections to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Police sources said the suspects were allegedly coordinating in the capital to carry out sabotage and covert attacks, having gathered weapons and equipment for that purpose. However, officials noted that the investigation is ongoing and final conclusions will depend on further interrogation.

A case has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Kamrangirchar Police Station, and the suspects have been sent to court.

Speaking at a press briefing at DMP headquarters, Additional Commissioner (DB) Shafiqul Islam said the detainees had been involved in extremist activities and emphasized that more details would emerge following questioning in remand. He added that authorities remain vigilant and will continue to take strict action against anyone involved in such activities in the future.
