Naogaon, Jan 26 (V7N) — Even under a sunny sky, Naogaon experienced biting cold, with the temperature dropping to 8.6 degrees Celsius at 9 a.m. on Sunday, marking the lowest recorded temperature in the district this season. The previous day, the mercury stood slightly higher at 10.7 degrees Celsius.
Despite a fog-free and cloudless sky, the cold wind added to the chill, making it feel much colder, according to locals. Though the sun has been visible for the past two days, it offers little warmth.
Abdul Jabbar, an auto-rickshaw driver in the Dhaka Bus Stand area, shared, "There’s less fog today, but the wind makes it feel colder. After the afternoon, it becomes very challenging to drive a rickshaw."
Residents noted that the temperature drops significantly in the evening, making nights unbearably cold. Low-income groups and agricultural workers are particularly affected as they brave the freezing weather to sustain their livelihoods. Farmers report difficulties in planting Boro rice, with activities slowing down due to the cold.
Prince Hossain, a farmer from Jagatsingpur village, said, "Even with sunshine, stepping into the fields in the morning is impossible. The water feels like ice on your hands and feet."
Mizanur Rahman, an official at the Badalgachhi Agricultural Meteorological Observatory, confirmed the reduced fog due to clear skies but highlighted the impact of cold winds. He noted that despite the sunny weather, the temperature remained significantly low at 8.6°C, underlining the harshness of this winter.
The extreme cold continues to pose challenges for Naogaon residents, particularly those in agriculture and daily labour, as they struggle to adapt to the bitter weather conditions.
