Dhaka, Apr 06 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has reported that a mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping over multiple districts across the country, including parts of the capital. According to the 72-hour forecast issued from 9 am on Sunday, the heatwave is affecting Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rangamati, Feni, Lakshmipur, Jessore and Chuadanga, and is expected to persist over the coming days.
The BMD noted that the seasonal low pressure is located over the south Bay of Bengal, with its extension reaching into West Bengal and nearby regions, influencing the current weather patterns.
Despite the heatwave, the forecast indicates the possibility of temporary gusty winds, lightning, and isolated rain or thundershowers at one or two places in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions today.
For Monday, the weather is likely to remain mostly dry with partly cloudy skies, although isolated rain or thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning may occur in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Day and night temperatures are expected to rise slightly across the country.
On Tuesday, brief showers may occur in Rangpur division, while Wednesday may bring scattered thundershowers with lightning in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet.
By Thursday, rainfall is expected to spread more broadly across Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions.
The extended five-day forecast suggests that rainfall activity may gradually decrease toward the end of the week, although some regions may continue to experience sporadic rain or thundershowers.
The Meteorological Department advises citizens, especially those in heatwave-affected areas, to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related health issues, such as heatstroke or dehydration. People are also urged to stay updated on local forecasts, particularly in areas prone to lightning and thunderstorms.
With the heatwave continuing and occasional showers expected, the country's weather will remain dynamic throughout the week.
