Dhaka, Sep 04 (V7N) – The High Court has expressed its inability to hear the writ petition filed by Julius Caesar, seeking reinstatement of his candidacy for the post of Vice President (VP) in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.

The writ was taken up on Thursday in the bench of Justice Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Faiz Ahmed, but the court declined to proceed with the hearing.

Julius Caesar, whose name appeared as VP candidate no. 26 in the final list published on August 26 after scrutiny, lost his candidacy after allegations of affiliation with the banned Chhatra League were brought against him. Following a hearing, the Election Appeal Tribunal referred the matter to the Election Commission, which ultimately recommended the cancellation of his candidacy and ballot number.

On August 27, Caesar sent a legal notice to the Chief Returning Officer, arguing that he was denied an opportunity to defend himself. With no response to the notice, he proceeded to file the writ seeking to postpone the DUCSU elections and hall polls until his candidacy was reinstated.

Despite the High Court’s decision, the development has added further uncertainty and controversy to the already heated DUCSU polls, scheduled for September 9.
