Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N)- The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Tajul Islam, has emphasized that the trial against individuals involved in the recent violence during student protests is not politically motivated. Speaking to journalists at the ICT premises today, Tajul stated that the trial's primary focus is to ensure justice for the victims of the violence.

Tajul reassured that no innocent individuals would be wrongfully tried, and those found guilty would not be spared.

He further revealed that the ICT has decided to reach out to all deputy commissioners, as well as authorities from graveyards and hospitals, to gather data on those who were killed or injured during the protests in July and August. Letters have already been sent to the media to assist in this data collection.

Tajul noted that the tribunal has already visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital to collect information from the injured individuals currently admitted there. The families of the injured have urged for a swift trial of the perpetrators.

The chief prosecutor added that the ICT is in contact with the hospital’s director and will continue gathering relevant information as the trial progresses. He mentioned that the tribunal plans to meet with student leaders soon to gather further details.

Though Tajul refrained from providing a specific timeline for the trial's completion, he assured that it would be concluded while all facts remain fresh. Responding to inquiries, he reiterated that the trial has no political agenda and is solely aimed at delivering justice for the cruelty inflicted.
