Around 20-30 robbers reportedly broke into Magpie Knitwear Limited, and made away with goods worth several crores of taka on 28 February.

Savar, Mar 01 (V7N) –A group of robbers broke into a closed readymade garment factory owned by Magpie Group in the Zirabo area of Ashulia and reportedly made away with goods worth several crores of taka last night (28 February).

About 30 robbers broke into Magpie Knitwear Limited, which has been shut down since 5 January of last year, confirmed Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan, the superintendent of police (SP) at Industrial Police-1.

He said, "There were around 30-35 robbers. The security personnel reported that the robbery lasted from 9pm to 4am, but there was no call made to the authorities, not even to 999."

Local sources said after looting the factory, the thieves loaded the stolen goods onto a truck and left the scene at around 4am.

The robbers were also reported to have looted a nearby shop at the time.

Kaiser Ali Khan, the general manager (administration) of Magpie Group, said, "The armed gang entered the factory at around 8:20pm. The robbers held the security guards at gunpoint, tying them up before proceeding to loot valuable items from the factory."

"The stolen goods included batteries, UPS systems, cables, air conditioners, motors, computers, and other equipment, all valued at an estimated Tk8-10 crore," he added.

The company is preparing to file a case regarding the incident, said Kaiser.

SP Mominul said, "We are still in the process of gathering information, and both the local police and the army are involved in the investigation."

"We arrived at the scene after receiving the news, and are currently investigating," he added.
