Kushtia, Feb 18 (V7N): Locals near Islamic University (IU) blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway on Saturday, protesting against the proposed relocation of the IU police station to Jhaudia.
Protesters voiced strong opposition, declaring, "We will not allow the police station to be moved to Jhaudia. If a responsible official comes and addresses our concerns, we may lift the blockade conditionally." IU students also expressed solidarity with the local residents.
Professor Dr. Rashiduzzaman, Chairman of the Department of Communication and Multimedia Journalism, stated, "This protest reflects the demands of people from at least five unions. There are ongoing conspiracies to shift the IU police station, but we will not let it happen."
SM Sweet, IU Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, emphasized, "Administrative activities can be conducted in Jhaudia separately, but the IU police station must remain on campus to ensure student safety."
The protest continued as demonstrators demanded an official response regarding the relocation decision.
