SUNAMGANJ, Mar 30 (V7N)– A boat capsized in the Boulai River in Jamalganj upazila, Sunamganj district, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuring one child late last night.

"Four people were killed and one child injured as a boat capsized in the Boulai River at Jamalganj upazila in the district last night," a local police report confirmed.

The deceased have been identified as Beauty Chakraborty (50), Kalpana Sarkar (55), Rudra Sarkar (4), and Ganga Sarkar (6).

"The deceased were identified as Beauty Chakraborty, 50, Kalpana Sarkar, 55, Rudra Sarkar, 4 and Ganga Sarkar, 6," a local disaster management official reported.

A 10-year-old child, Nirab Sarkar, sustained injuries and has been hospitalized in Sylhet.

"The injured child, Nirab Sarkar, 10, was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital for treatment," a hospital spokesperson confirmed.

The incident occurred around 9:30 PM in the Boulai River, within the Beheli union of Jamalganj upazila.

"The incident occurred around 9:30pm in the Boulai River under Beheli union of the upazila, said Jamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saiful Islam," Jamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saiful Islam stated.

The boat was carrying between 50 and 60 passengers, along with goods, when it capsized while making a turn.

"A boat carrying 50 to 60 passengers along with goods capsized while taking a turn near Hararkandi mor, he added," OC Islam added.

The bodies of the deceased have been returned to their families.

"The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives, OC said," a local police report confirmed.
