JHALAKATHI, Aug 06 (V7N) — A suspected burglar lost part of a finger after being bitten by a housewife during an attempted burglary at a migrant worker's home in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi district, police and local residents said.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday in Dohshankar village while members of the household were asleep.
According to family members, the intruder entered the house at around 2:45 a.m. Housewife Jhumur Begum awoke after hearing unusual noises and confronted the suspect. When she began shouting for help, the man allegedly covered her mouth, leading to a struggle.
During the confrontation, one of the suspect's fingers entered the woman's mouth, and she bit down forcefully, severing part of the finger, according to the family's account.
Despite the injury, the suspect reportedly threatened the victim before opening the door and fleeing with accomplices waiting outside. The group escaped with two mobile phones from the house.
Residents later responded to the woman's cries for help and alerted police. Investigators recovered the severed portion of the suspect's finger from the scene.
Local residents said incidents of theft and attempted burglary have increased in the area in recent weeks, prompting concerns about public safety. They called for increased night patrols and the swift arrest of those responsible.
Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sujon Biswas said officers had inspected the scene and launched an investigation.
"We have visited the location and are investigating the complaint. Those involved will be identified and brought under the law," he said.
