Netrokona, Sep 08 (V7N) - In a joint operation led by the military in Jalshuka, Purbodhla upazila, Netrokona, a 9mm pistol with a magazine and a damaged pistol part were recovered from the Soy River based on intelligence.
 
During the operation, five individuals were detained on suspicion of being involved in the theft of the weapons. They are Md. Ataur Rahman (39), son of the late Haji Taleb Ali Sarker from Jamaikona village; Md. Shafiqur Rahman (23), son of Abdul Kader from Jalshuka village; Md. Sabbir Hossain Khan (18), son of Asaduzzaman from Gohalakanda village; Md. Aminul Islam (25), son of Abdul Kader; and Moza. Jannatul Ferdous (26), wife of Choton Sarker from Mohilakanda village in Gauripur upazila, Mymensingh. After questioning, they were released.
 
Major Jisanul Haider from the Netrokona Army Camp confirmed this information to Voice Seven on Saturday (September 7) at about 6 PM.
 
He further detailed that on Friday afternoon, a pistol and a magazine, wrapped in cloth and found inside a shopping bag, were recovered from the Kumudganj Jame Mosque in the upazila.
 
It should be noted that on August 4, during the anti-discrimination student protests, 10 9mm pistols, 26 magazines, 420 rounds of pistol ammunition, 40 rounds of rifle ammunition, and 32 tear gas shells were looted from Shyampur market in Purbodhla.
 
Of the 10 stolen weapons, 9 have now been recovered. Additionally, one weapon was found broken, and half of it was retrieved from the Soy River by a fire service diving team.
 
Major Jisanul Haider reported that the operation was led by Captain Sajid Bin Roushon from the Netrokona Army Camp, with the joint effort conducted under the leadership of Captain A M N Akib from the Purbodhla Camp. Executive Magistrate Sanjit Sarker from the district administration was also present.
 
Major Haider further mentioned that following the theft, a coordinated operation involving the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Ansar members began on September 4. Based on detailed intelligence, the operation continued throughout the night in various locations around Shyampur in Purbodhla upazila. With local help, a 9mm pistol and a magazine were found in a shopping bag inside the Kumudganj Jame Mosque. The joint operation to capture those involved in the weapon theft is still ongoing.
