DHAKA, June 23, (V7N) — Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli paid a courtesy call on Leader of the Opposition Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, MP, at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today.

The envoy was joined by Alberto Giovannetti, Head of Political, Economic and Communication Affairs at the Embassy of Switzerland, and Senior Political, Economic and Press Officer Khaled Chowdhury.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, where both sides discussed Bangladesh’s overall situation after the national election, along with investment and bilateral cooperation between the two countries, a press release said.

Ambassador Renggli reaffirmed Switzerland’s strong support for Bangladesh and expressed optimism that Swiss investment in the country would grow further in the coming years.

He stressed the importance of strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in Bangladesh. The Rohingya crisis and human rights issues were also discussed, with focus on the constructive role the opposition and civil society can play in addressing these challenges.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman urged Switzerland to expand cooperation with Bangladesh in areas including green energy and to boost bilateral trade and investment.

Opposition Leader’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, and Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Ali Ahmad Mabrur were also present.
