Mongla, Jan 11, (V7N) – Activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Mongla have staged a protest against the inclusion of unqualified and opportunistic individuals in the union-level membership selection committee. Dedicated leaders and activists, who stood by the party during challenging times, have reportedly been excluded, causing widespread dissatisfaction in the upazila.
The protest rally, led by BNP leader Sheikh Zulfikar Ali, commenced at Digraj Bazar and culminated in a demonstration at the market square.
Protesters expressed frustration over the exclusion of loyal leaders who faced imprisonment and repression under the Hasina government. They demanded the immediate inclusion of committed activists and the removal of "hybrid" leaders, threatening larger movements if their demands remain unmet.
Sheikh Zulfikar Ali, a member of the Mongla Upazila BNP Convening Committee, stated, “The Burirdanga Union BNP screening committee has included unqualified individuals, sidelining the party’s dedicated activists. This must be rectified to strengthen the organization.”
He further emphasized recognizing those who endured imprisonment and torture for the party's cause during the Hasina regime, warning of further action if their demands are ignored.
Notable BNP leaders participating in the protest included Sargit Roy, Amol Biswas, Rezaul Sardar, Shukur Ali, Sheikh Zia, Shoaib Babu, Sheikh Jahangir, Mohabbat Sardar, Borhan Fakir, Sheikh Shamim, Palash Roy, Aleya Begum, Swapna Begum, Nurunnahar, Litu Biswas, Sumitra Das, and Shikha Rani Shil.
