Dhaka, Mar 25 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Citizen Party (BCP) has lodged an objection with the Election Commission (EC) regarding the abbreviation ‘NCP’ assigned to the newly formed National Citizen Party (Jatiya Nagorik Party, JNP).

On Tuesday, BCP Secretary General Shahriar Khan submitted a written objection to EC Secretary Abir Khan, requesting a correction in the party’s abbreviated name.

Shahriar Khan pointed out that the Jatiya Nagorik Party (National Citizen Party) was founded on February 28 and has gained public attention. However, he argued that the correct abbreviation for the party should be ‘JNP’ instead of ‘NCP’, as the name should remain consistent across different languages.

"A name, whether of a person, institution, or place, does not change depending on the language in which it is written. Therefore, the proper abbreviation should be ‘JNP’ and not ‘NCP’," he stated.

Khan also emphasized that the Jatiya Nagorik Party (JNP) has already made a strong impact on Bangladesh’s political landscape, playing a crucial role in the fall of the Awami League government.

"These young Turks have already removed an autocratic regime. In such a crucial moment, inconsistencies in a party's name would be regrettable," he added.

The BCP has urged the Election Commission to seriously reconsider the abbreviation issue while processing the party’s registration.
