Dhaka, Apr 03 (V7N) – The National Citizens Party (NCP) has announced that it will apply for registration with the Election Commission (EC) within the stipulated deadline. The party also confirmed its intention to field a single candidate in both the Constituent Assembly and National Parliament elections.
In an exclusive interview with a private television channel in Bangladesh, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain stated that preparations for registration and the selection of the party’s electoral symbol are in the final stages. He emphasized that the application would be submitted in accordance with a recent High Court verdict.
"The conditions for registration—having party committees and offices in 21 districts and 100 upazilas—will be fulfilled soon. We are confident in meeting the Election Commission’s requirements and will submit our application as soon as possible," said Akhtar Hossain. He also expressed optimism about the party’s future, stating, "Though NCP is a newly formed party, it enjoys significant public support."
Akhtar Hossain urged the government to acknowledge NCP’s reform proposals and recognize the need for a Constituent Assembly election. He warned that if necessary reforms were not implemented, the party would organize a mass movement.
He also stressed the importance of the July Declaration, calling for its legal recognition. "The government must not treat the July Declaration merely as a historical document but as a legally binding commitment. It should be implemented through political consensus and given a legal framework to ensure its significance," he added.
Akhtar Hossain confirmed his candidacy for the Rangpur-4 constituency (Kaunia-Pirgachha) in the upcoming elections. As part of his campaign, he has been actively engaging with local communities. Following Eid prayers, he visited the homes of martyrs to pay his respects.
Earlier, during a six-day visit to Rangpur on March 27, Hossain held a public meeting from a moving van, highlighting his political agenda and vision for the region.
With the party gearing up for formal registration and electoral participation, NCP’s entry into the political landscape could introduce new dynamics in the upcoming elections.
