Dhaka, Apr 26 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has expressed disagreement with the National Consensus Commission's proposal to set the term of the Prime Minister, President, and Parliament at four years. The party stated that such a move would not be appropriate.

Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher shared these remarks during a break in their dialogue with the Commission at the National Parliament on Saturday (April 26).

Speaking to reporters, Taher said, "The constitution has been discussed and the discussions were fruitful. We agreed on some issues. However, more talks are necessary. Not everything can be finalized today."
He further mentioned that Jamaat-e-Islami has proposed a bicameral parliamentary system as part of the ongoing constitutional reforms.

At the outset of the dialogue, Taher reiterated Jamaat's commitment to supporting positive and realistic reforms, stating, "There is widespread public disappointment. We achieved a second independence or a new Bangladesh through the July mass uprising. But time will reveal whether this has been realized."

Warning against repeating past mistakes, he emphasized the need for vigilance and firmness in safeguarding the nation's future.
"We must be cautious. If needed, we must be strict to correct fundamental issues," Taher said.

Affirming Jamaat’s dedication to Bangladesh’s sovereignty, he declared, "We are firmly committed to independence. We are not intimidated by the bloodthirsty gazes of any state. We will not allow any interference in Bangladesh's sovereignty."

Further details on the outcomes of the dialogue are expected to be shared at the conclusion of the discussions.
