Dhaka, May 2 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to return to Bangladesh from London on either Sunday, May 4, or Monday, May 5, depending on the availability of a medical air ambulance. Efforts are ongoing to secure the flight, though confirmation remains pending.

Speaking to the media on Thursday night, Khaleda Zia’s personal secretary, ABM Abdus Sattar, said:

“If an air ambulance is available, Madam (Khaleda Zia) may return on Sunday, May 4. However, it has not yet been secured. We are continuing our efforts. If not arranged in time, she will return on a regular Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight the following day.”

If the air ambulance option is not finalized, she is expected to arrive in Dhaka at approximately 11:00 AM on Monday, May 5, via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. She may be accompanied by her two daughters-in-law.

Khaleda Zia has been in London since January 8 for advanced medical treatment. Her travel was facilitated by a special aircraft from the royal fleet of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, after he was informed of her deteriorating health.

She was admitted to The London Clinic for 17 days before being discharged on January 25. Since then, she has been under continued medical supervision at the London residence of her elder son and acting BNP Chairman, Tarique Rahman.

The former Prime Minister has long suffered from a range of chronic health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, heart ailments, diabetes, and arthritis.
