Dhaka, July 16 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has called for balanced and fair diplomatic engagement from foreign countries with all political parties in Bangladesh, rather than favoring any single entity. He made these remarks after returning from a five-day official visit to China on Tuesday (July 15) night.
Speaking to reporters at Shahjalal International Airport, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman noted, “In the past, some countries had aligned themselves with only one political party in Bangladesh. This approach was not appreciated by the general public.”
He expressed hope that China's relations with all political forces in Bangladesh, including Jamaat, will strengthen bilateral ties and contribute positively to the country's future. “Jamaat wants to build a relationship with China based on equality and mutual respect,” he said.
Strengthening Educational and Cultural Ties
Highlighting the outcomes of the visit, Dr. Rahman mentioned that the Chinese government is expanding educational cooperation with Bangladesh. “Apart from the existing China Corner at Dhaka University, China has announced the establishment of similar centers at three more universities,” he said.
These "China Corners" aim to boost cultural and academic exchange, promoting language learning, research collaboration, and diplomatic understanding between the two nations.
A Step Toward Broader Engagement
The visit comes at a time when China is seeking to diversify its political outreach in Bangladesh, engaging with a wider range of stakeholders beyond the ruling party. Political analysts view Jamaat’s China visit as part of Beijing’s broader strategy to build stable and inclusive partnerships in South Asia.
Dr. Rahman concluded his briefing by expressing optimism about the future of Bangladesh-China relations, saying the visit had opened new avenues for dialogue and cooperation in education, culture, and development.
