Dhaka, Oct 17 (V7N) — Nahid Islam, convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), has said that the signing of the July Charter by a few political parties cannot be termed national unity. “The meeting of a handful of parties does not reflect the unity of the nation,” he remarked.
He made these comments while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the National Workers' Power on Friday morning (October 17).
Nahid Islam said that true national unity involves people from all classes and professions, including workers, coming together for the welfare of the country. “But there is no discussion about the Labor Commission or the health sector. The Reform Commission has only talked about elections. There are no positive indications for democracy there,” he added.
Criticizing the current political approach, Nahid said, “On this historic day, the people are being deceived in the name of national unity. While factories are burning, the value of a worker’s life is being reduced to just two to three lakh taka.”
He further alleged that the mafias from the previous fascist era have not been brought under the law. “Instead, their businesses are being protected. They are the ones who exploited the workers,” he said.
Nahid concluded by affirming that National Workers' Power will stand by the working class, who continue to sustain the country’s economy through their labor and dedication.
