Chapainawabganj, Nov 15 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on India to end its “tyranny” over Bangladesh and adopt a cooperative and friendly approach, stressing the need for an elected government to safeguard the country’s interests.
He made the remarks while visiting the Mahananda River Rubber Dam Project area in Chapainawabganj on Saturday.
“Despite repeated discussions with India regarding water sharing, the country has not paid attention,” Fakhrul said. “If BNP forms the government through elections, we will strive to secure a fair share of water. An elected government, supported by the people, is essential to achieve this.”
He also criticized India for blocking the water of the Padma, which he said has adversely affected livelihoods. Fakhrul emphasized that fair distribution of the Padma and Teesta rivers, along with resolution of the Farakka issue, will be prioritized if BNP comes to power.
The BNP Secretary General called on India to maintain cooperative relations with Bangladesh and highlighted that protecting the country’s interests would be difficult without an elected government.
Earlier in the day, BNP announced that its ‘Save Padma’ mass rally will be held at 2 pm at Nawabganj Government College ground, with Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir participating in the event.
