Dhaka, Dec 13 (V7N)- BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has expressed concern that questions are being raised among the public about whether a “master plan” is underway to sabotage the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for February.

He made the remarks at the closing ceremony of BNP’s ‘Plan for Building the Nation’ program held at the Krishibid Institution Auditorium in Khamarbari on Saturday.

Rizvi said the public is increasingly worried about the overall law and order situation and whether deliberate efforts are being made to disrupt a free and fair election environment. “People are asking whether some coordinated work is being carried out to sabotage the February elections,” he said.

Referring to the recent shooting of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, Rizvi said such incidents have created fear and confusion among the people. He questioned the role of the government in preventing rising terrorism and mismanagement.

“The interim government under Professor Muhammad Yunus is supposed to be neutral. Then why are terrorists becoming so active at this time? Why are neighborhoods being filled with fear?” Rizvi asked. “People are asking—where are these terrorists coming from?”

He said the country was supposed to be entering a more peaceful phase, not relapsing into fear and violence. “This is not the era of Sheikh Hasina. This is not an era of looting or terrorism. People dream of a peaceful society where children can go to school safely and return home without fear,” he said.

Rizvi further questioned whether certain groups were intentionally trying to undermine the February 12 election. “Are some people systematically trying to destroy a free and fair election? Or is there another motive behind these incidents?” he asked.

He also claimed that audio messages allegedly linked to a former prime minister currently residing in Delhi are circulating, in which talks of revenge are being heard. “Who are the agents of this revenge?” Rizvi questioned.

At the same event, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said the people of Bangladesh want democratization and stability. “BNP is committed to establishing peaceful, stable and tolerant politics in the country,” he said.
