Kishoreganj, Feb 03 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said the era of winning elections through “trickery and tactics” is over, asserting that young voters will safeguard not only their own votes but also those of others.

He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Katiadi College Ground in Kishoreganj on Tuesday (February 3).

“I will cast my vote, and I will protect yours too. This day is over,” Dr Shafiqur Rahman said. “The youth of ’24 are awake. Just as they will guard their own votes, they will also guard the votes of others. No miscreant will be able to touch anyone else’s vote.”

Calling on voters not to give further opportunities to those who, he claimed, have “hijacked the fate of the people,” the Jamaat Ameer said the youth are seeking change and that the process would begin from February 13.

“We want to build a beautiful Bangladesh based on harmony among all religions,” he said.

Seeking votes, Dr Shafiqur Rahman urged citizens to place their trust in Jamaat-e-Islami.

“Give us your sacred trust votes to build a Bangladesh free from extortion, litigation, and discrimination,” he said. “We will repay your trust by strengthening the youth through education and training. Everyone will be given dignified work according to their qualifications—employment, not unemployment allowances.”

He also called on the administration to carry out its duties courageously and impartially during the elections.

“If you remain impartial, the nation will pray for you. Eighteen crore people will stand by you,” he said, urging officials not to act out of favoritism.

Referring to the referendum being held on the same day as the parliamentary election, the Jamaat Ameer appealed for support for a ‘Yes’ vote.

“There will be two votes on the same day—one for parliament and one for the referendum. The referendum reflects the aspiration of July. ‘Yes’ means freedom; ‘No’ means slavery,” he said.
