Washington, D.C. Oct 21, (V7N) — House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., faced tough questions during a tense interview regarding former President Donald Trump's recent remarks about "the enemy from within." This follows Trump's comments suggesting that the military might need to intervene against what he described as “radical-left lunatics” in the event of election-related unrest.

In a conversation with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Johnson clarified that Trump was referring to individuals he deemed threatening and violent, rather than directly targeting political opponents. However, Trump has consistently used broad language in labeling Democrats as “enemies” during the lead-up to the 2024 election.

The exchange became heated when Tapper pointedly remarked, “If a Democratic presidential candidate said you and your wife were evil, and that the military should be used against you, I would say that's disgusting.” Johnson responded, “Well, thank you. Some have said that about us because they don't like my politics.”

It’s important to note that regardless of Trump's rhetoric, he would not have the authority to command the National Guard or active-duty military units on Election Day, Nov. 5, as he is no longer in office.
