PARIS, Feb 20, (V7N) – Real Madrid stormed past Manchester City to reach the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday, while Paris Saint-Germain crushed Brest 7-0 to seal their spot in the next round.
Kylian Mbappé was the star of the night, netting a stunning hat-trick as Madrid completed a commanding 6-3 aggregate victory over City at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Madrid took control early, with Mbappé striking in the 4th minute after a perfectly timed lob over Ederson. The French forward then finished off a slick team move before completing his hat-trick with a precise left-footed strike from the edge of the area.
City, who were without Erling Haaland in the starting XI, managed a late consolation goal through Nico González, but Pep Guardiola admitted his team was second-best.
“The best team won,” Guardiola conceded. “It’s been our worst year. For many reasons, we lost that consistency.”
Madrid now awaits either Atlético Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16, but they will be without Jude Bellingham for the first leg after he picked up a yellow card.
