To sign security agreements with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to visit Berlin and Paris on Friday, according to the announcement.

Zelensky is visiting the two biggest EU members as the Russian war of Ukraine approaches its third year.

Between new Russian strikes and ammunition shortages, Kyiv's forces are facing an increasingly challenging position on the eastern frontlines.

A bilateral security agreement between Zelensky and Scholz was scheduled to be signed on Friday, according to the German government, and it would include Ukraine's "long-term security commitments and support".Macron and Zelensky were scheduled to sign a security agreement in the Elysee Palace on Friday night, according to the French president's office.

Macron's office stated on Thursday that "this agreement follows commitments made within the G7 format on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023."

NATO leaders at the time promised to offer Ukraine long-term security support, but they did not specify a timeline for Ukraine's admission to the alliance.

Asserting that "we are determined to defeat this bet that Russia is making" on "the long term, of us running out of steam," a presidential advisor told AFP. In January, the UK and Ukraine inked a bilateral security pact, and Kiev is currently in negotiations with additional nations.

These security agreements can cover the training of Ukrainian soldiers as well as the supply of contemporary military hardware.

Additionally, Zelensky's office announced that he will speak at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday and meet with US Vice President Kamala Harris.

Meetings with the leaders of the Czech Republic, Denmark, and the Netherlands were also scheduled for the Ukrainian leader.

France has been one of Kyiv's main allies since Russia invaded the country in 2022.Macron said in January that he would be visiting Ukraine in February, but his delegation did not offer any specifics.

Macron has advocated for a "war economy" transition and increased manufacturing in France's defense sector.

The president of France urged European nations to get ready to support Ukraine if Washington decides to stop providing help in January.
