Aug 01 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump has warned of more military action against Iran as Washington pushes to reopen the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking at Camp David on Friday, Trump said the US would keep hitting Iran "very hard" until Tehran can no longer continue the confrontation. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accused Iran of breaching a truce memorandum, targeting commercial vessels and killing American troops, adding that Iran would face further consequences.
The US State Department has also issued upgraded security warnings for American citizens in 10 countries in the region, citing potential flight disruptions and airspace closures.
On Saturday, Kuwait said its forces had foiled fresh Iranian drone attacks aimed at vital installations, with no casualties reported. In the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, two separate tanker-related incidents were reported, including one vessel that suffered engine room damage after being struck by a projectile.
In Gaza, at least four people were killed in Israeli strikes after Hamas said it was ready to disarm under a US-mediated ceasefire proposal. Israel said it had struck Hamas positions and arms depots. While Egypt welcomed Hamas's statement, Israeli far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir rejected the plan.
In other developments, Yemen's Houthi rebels diverted Saudi shipping, Israel said it destroyed a Hezbollah tunnel network in southern Lebanon — a move criticised by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun ahead of scheduled talks in Rome — and an Israeli army officer was wounded during operations in southern Lebanon.
