New York, 16 July- Donald Trump has officially secured the Republican Party's nomination for the upcoming U.S. presidential election. The announcement came after a vote by party members at the national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday.

In addition to this significant milestone, Trump revealed his choice for running mate: Ohio State Senator JD Vance. Announcing Vance, 39, as the vice-presidential candidate on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump ended months of speculation regarding his vice-presidential pick.

Vance, a first-term senator known for his alignment with Trump's ideologies, is considered a strong ally within the party. The nomination process saw Trump receiving unanimous support from nearly 2,500 delegates at the convention, far surpassing the required 1,215 votes.

The announcement of Trump's final nomination was marked by applause, cheers, and music, with Eric Trump, his son, declaring the results from the Florida delegate vote.

Trump's candidacy marks his third bid for the presidency, a historical first in the United States. While the U.S. Constitution prevents someone from serving more than two consecutive terms as president, Trump’s non-consecutive terms allowed him to run again in 2024 after his initial win in 2016 and subsequent loss to incumbent President Joe Biden in 2020.

This news follows closely on the heels of a recent attempt on Trump's life during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was injured but survived. Analysts speculate that this attack could significantly impact the dynamics of the upcoming election.

The U.S. presidential election is scheduled to take place on November 5, 2024.
