Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – The Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Bangladesh, Kevin S. Randell, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna today.
During their meeting, the Chief Adviser and the Vatican envoy discussed a range of issues, including the situation of Bangladesh's religious minorities, fostering interfaith dialogue, humanitarian efforts for the Rohingya refugees, and the upcoming UN General Assembly where Professor Yunus is set to deliver a speech later this month.
The Vatican envoy highlighted a proposal for an interfaith dialogue between Bangladesh’s Islamic scholars and a delegation from the Holy See’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue. He also emphasized the need to increase humanitarian support for the over one million Rohingya refugees currently residing in camps in southeastern Bangladesh.
Professor Yunus noted that the interim government is prioritizing law and order, emphasizing that the security situation in the country has improved. He also mentioned that significant reforms have been implemented in the first month since he assumed office as Chief Adviser.
The Chief Adviser sought the Holy See's support in the reform efforts and assistance for the Rohingya population.
Senior Secretary on SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed and Director General of the Foreign Ministry Kazi Russel Pervez were also present at the meeting.
