Dhaka has dropped further in the global rankings of liveable cities. According to the Global Liveability Index 2024, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) on Thursday, Dhaka now ranks 168th out of 173 cities, down from 166th last year.

Vienna, Austria, holds the top position due to its excellent infrastructure, rich culture, entertainment options, and high-quality education and healthcare. Other top-ranking cities include Copenhagen (Denmark), Zurich (Switzerland), Melbourne (Australia), and Calgary (Canada).

Osaka, Japan, is the only Asian city in the top ten, placing ninth with a score of 96. In contrast, Dhaka scores 43, making it the sixth least liveable city on the list.

The EIU's ranking is determined based on key factors such as healthcare, education, stability, infrastructure, and environment.
