Madaripur, Sept 19 (V7N) – Tragedy struck in Dasar upazila of Madaripur on Wednesday evening when two brothers drowned in a village pond. The victims were identified as Hafizul Molla, 9, and Hamza Molla, 7, sons of day laborer Naim Molla from Atipara village under Baligram Union.
 
According to family members and locals, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. while the brothers were playing near a pond behind their house. Hamza reportedly slipped into the water while washing his hands and feet. In an attempt to rescue his younger brother, Hafizul jumped into the pond but also drowned.
 
When the children did not return home, their parents began searching. Seeing their shoes floating in the water, villagers rushed to the pond and started a search. Around 7:30 p.m., both children were pulled out and taken to Madaripur Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
 
The sudden deaths cast a pall of grief over the area, with parents and relatives inconsolable. “Both of my brother’s sons died by drowning. We cannot accept such a loss,” said the children’s grandfather and aunt, speaking to reporters.
 
Dasar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ehte-Shamul Islam confirmed the incident, describing it as deeply tragic and heartbreaking.
