Chattogram, Nov 17 (V7N) — A deadly collision between a passenger bus and a drum truck in Bottola, Sitakunda, has claimed the lives of 13 people, including a child, and left dozens more injured. The accident occurred on Sunday evening when the Dhaka-bound bus reportedly lost control and slammed into the back of the truck.
Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene: the bus was crushed instantly, passengers thrown onto the road, and some severely dismembered. Roni, an injured passenger, said he boarded the CDM Paribahan bus from Baraiahat around 5:15 pm. As the bus neared Bottola, it hit the truck, leaving many passengers gravely injured. Women and children were among the victims.
Local residents immediately rushed to rescue the victims before the Sitakunda Fire Service arrived and transported the injured to hospitals. Dr. Sajida of Sitakunda Health Complex said 20 people were transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, with 12 in critical condition.
Inspector Zakir Rabbani of the Kumira Highway Police confirmed the bus lost control, causing the collision, and said a full investigation is underway. Authorities urge drivers to exercise extreme caution on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway, noting a surge in fatal crashes in recent weeks.
This tragic incident highlights growing safety concerns on the country’s highways, with emergency and rescue services continuing to respond to the aftermath.
