Rangamati, Dec 21 (V7N) — In the early hours of Sunday at around 3:30 am, a sudden fire erupted at the old bus station area in Rangamati, engulfing two shops—a furniture store and a cane products shop. The flames quickly spread to nearby structures, ultimately destroying three buses, four shops, and one residential house.

Eyewitness and local businessman Selim reported that multiple calls were made to the fire service and electricity office, but no response was received initially. The Kotwali police duty vehicle then alerted an on-duty Sub-Inspector, who coordinated with the fire service to respond to the incident.

Within approximately 30 minutes, the intense flames had caused extensive damage. Victims estimate their total loss at nearly Tk 50 lakh and claimed that timely intervention by the fire service could have significantly reduced the damage.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, while local residents and business owners are urging better emergency response coordination to prevent similar losses in the future.

The incident has raised concerns about fire safety and emergency preparedness in the area, highlighting the need for efficient communication between residents, law enforcement, and fire response units.
