Mirzapur, Dec 27 (V7N) — A woman and her 10-month-old daughter were killed on Friday after a truck rammed into a private car on the Dhaka–Tangail Highway in Mirzapur, causing severe traffic disruption.
The accident occurred around 5:00 pm in the Gorai area of Mirzapur upazila as the car was traveling toward Dhaka. According to highway police, a truck struck the vehicle from behind, killing the passengers instantly. The victims were identified as Sadia Kabir, 23, wife of Jisan Kabir Tipu of Feni district, and her infant daughter Tajria Kabir. They were returning to Dhaka after attending a wedding ceremony in Tangail.
The driver of the private car was injured in the crash and admitted to Kumudini Hospital. His identity was not immediately known. Following the collision, long tailbacks formed on the Dhaka-bound lanes of the highway, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. Traffic movement returned to normal about half an hour later after highway police and fire service personnel cleared the damaged vehicles from the road.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohel Sarwar of Gorai Highway Police Station said the bodies would be handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities. The truck involved in the crash has been seized, and further legal action is underway.
