Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N) — Cultural Affairs Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui announced today that efforts are underway to organize the Ekushey Book Fair on a larger scale than in previous years, with the event planned to take place at Suhrawardy Udyan. Speaking at the Secretariat, Farooqui emphasized the fair’s role in promoting a narrative that reflects Bangladesh’s religious, linguistic, and cultural harmony. He also highlighted the importance of showcasing the nation's struggles against autocratic rule and corruption in alignment with the spirit of the Liberation War.
Farooqui underscored the need for responsible behavior among theater workers and assured that the Ministry of Culture will be more proactive in fostering a healthy cultural environment.
The Ministry of Housing and Public Works had recently suggested relocating the book fair to the Bangla Academy premises. On November 6, a letter from the ministry stated that, based on a November 2023 meeting, the 2025 Amar Ekushey Book Fair should be held at the Bangla Academy grounds rather than Suhrawardy Udyan. This sparked media speculation over the fair’s location.
In response to this development, Farooqui said, "We were addressing this matter before it surfaced in the media. I've discussed the issue with the Public Works Advisor, and our Secretary has been in talks with the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. We are hopeful for a positive outcome, and the book fair is expected to be held at its intended location. We aim for a well-organized event without any disruptions."
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with other relevant authorities, is working to ensure that the upcoming Ekushey Book Fair can proceed smoothly and maintain its historical significance.
