Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami of aligning with Israel by tacitly supporting the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Speaking at a protest against Israel's aggression in Gaza organized by the Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance at Central Shaheed Minar on Thursday, the foreign minister condemned the indiscriminate violence plaguing Palestine. He highlighted the dire situation, emphasizing the disproportionate impact on women and children, as well as the targeting of hospitals and hindrance of relief efforts.

Mahmud expressed disbelief at the barbarity unfolding in the 21st century and criticized the lack of global action, particularly from Muslim-majority nations, to address the crisis. He reiterated Bangladesh's staunch opposition to the atrocities, citing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's vocal condemnation in international forums.

Accusing BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami of silently endorsing the genocide, Mahmud asserted that their stance aligned them with Israel. He condemned their alleged support, warning of the risks posed to the country's safety and societal fabric.

Furthermore, Mahmud highlighted internal divisions within BNP, suggesting growing discontent among party members over leadership decisions. He hinted at challenges to the authority of acting chairman Tareq Rahman due to perceived missteps, including abstention from recent elections.

Amidst these developments, Mahmud underscored the global recognition garnered by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government following their victory in the 12th National Parliament election. He revealed that 78 heads of state and 32 international organizations have extended congratulations to Prime Minister Hasina on her fourth consecutive term in office, underscoring Bangladesh's standing on the global stage.
