Dhaka, Mar 09 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has directed law enforcement agencies to take a firm stance against harassment and rape of women. He emphasized the need for swift investigations and timely submission of reports to the court in all cases of violence against women.
He made these remarks while visiting the eight-year-old rape victim from Magura at Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka, on Sunday (March 9) morning.
During his visit, the Home Affairs Advisor inquired about the child’s treatment and directed hospital authorities to provide the highest level of medical care. Senior CMH officials were present during the visit.
Earlier, upon learning about the incident on March 6, the advisor personally called the child’s mother, assuring her that the government would provide full medical and legal support. On Saturday, the child was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to CMH for advanced treatment.
The Home Affairs Advisor reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring justice and promised severe punishment for the perpetrators.
Regarding the Magura child rape case, he confirmed that:
A case has been filed at Magura Sadar Police Station for rape and attempted murder.
Four accused have been arrested and are in police custody.
The Home Ministry is closely monitoring the case to prevent any undue influence or relief for the culprits.
"Women should be able to live and work freely, without fear," he stated. "Anyone who obstructs this freedom or commits violence will face strict legal action—there will be no exceptions."
He also urged society to be more aware and vocal against violence against women, emphasizing the importance of family, social, and moral values in preventing such crimes.
