Dhaka, Apr 11 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Army has carried out extensive operations across the country from April 3 to April 9, working in coordination with law enforcement agencies to curb criminal activities and ensure public safety ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday, a total of 608 criminals were arrested during this period.

The detainees include listed terrorists, robbers, extortionists, drug traffickers, kidnappers, juvenile gang members, and other fugitives involved in multiple criminal cases. All were caught red-handed during joint raids conducted by units under various infantry divisions and independent brigades.

The operations led to the recovery of:

  • 21 illegal firearms

  • 295 rounds of ammunition

  • Narcotics and drug paraphernalia

  • Domestic weapons used in terrorist activities

  • Stolen mobile phones, laptops, and passports

  • Counterfeit currency and foreign money

The arrested individuals were handed over to local police stations for further interrogation and legal action

In addition to crime control, the Bangladesh Army has played a proactive role in ensuring a smooth and secure Eid journey for citizens. Measures included:

  • Round-the-clock patrolling at transport terminals and highways

  • Awareness campaigns and miking to prevent ticket black marketing

  • Fair ticket distribution

  • Traffic control, alternative route management, and roadblock enforcement

These actions significantly eased holiday travel congestion and enhanced commuter safety.

In response to recent incidents of attacks, vandalism, and looting at business establishments, the army:

  • Conducted rapid intervention raids

  • Apprehended perpetrators

  • Ensured business security

Moreover, operations targeted illegal activities, including the removal of unauthorized parking, road and sidewalk encroachments, and the sealing of banned polythene factories.

During the observance of Maha Ashtami, Punyasnan, and Basanti Puja, the army ensured tight security at puja mandaps and religious sites across the country.

The ISPR confirmed that such nationwide operations will continue to ensure stability and public safety. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest army camp or checkpoint.

“The Bangladesh Army is committed to maintaining law and order with the utmost professionalism,” the ISPR stated.
