Dhaka, Apr 30 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has officially handed over two vital licenses to Starlink Services Bangladesh Ltd., clearing the way for Elon Musk-owned Starlink to commence commercial satellite internet operations in the country.

The handover ceremony took place Tuesday afternoon at the BTRC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. Starlink received the following licenses for a 10-year term:

1. Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) Operator License – allowing Starlink to provide internet services using its satellite constellation.

2. Radio Communication Operator License – enabling the import and usage of wireless equipment and approved spectrum bands.

The licenses were handed over to Rebecca Slick Hunter, Director of Starlink Global Licensing and Market Aviation. Key BTRC officials, including Lt. Col. Syed Md. Taufiqul Islam, Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, and Brig. Gen. Md. Aminul Haque, attended the event.

According to a BTRC press release, these licenses were issued following prior approval from the Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus, granted on Monday.

With this development, Bangladesh becomes one of the few South Asian nations to open the door to low-earth orbit satellite internet services, which could significantly improve connectivity in rural and underserved regions.
