The Uttara North-Motijheel Metro Rail route will now have longer operating hours, according to a statement from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
The services will be provided starting on January 20 from 7:10 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception of Friday, according to MAN Siddique, Managing Director of DMTCL, who made this announcement on Thursday during a press conference held at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban.
Two metro trains will depart at 7:10 and 7:20 a.m. from Uttara North Metro Rail Station in the morning, traveling in the direction of Motijheel. All stations will be served by these trains, which are only accessible with an MRT or Rapid Pass.
Train services from Motijheel will begin at 7:30 am and run at prearranged intervals till 8:00 pm. Four metro trains are scheduled to depart Motijheel Metrorail Station at 8:10, 8:20, 8:30, and 8:40 in the evening. They will return to Uttara North, making stops at each station along the way.
Either an MRT Pass/Rapid Pass or a Single Journey Ticket, acquired before 7:45 pm on the day of departure, is required for passengers seeking to catch these evening trains. Sales counters and ticket offices will close at 7:45 p.m.
The Agargaon-Motijheel Metro Rail route used to operate at 10-minute intervals from 7:00 am to 11:30 am. The purpose of this extension is to provide commuters between Uttara and Motijheel with increased convenience.
Uttara North, Uttara Center, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbag, Dhaka University, Bangladesh Secretariat, and Motijheel are the 16 stations that Dhaka Metro Rail presently serves. A current expansion project is scheduled to bring Kamalapur onto the network in the near future.
The Dhaka Metro Rail began operating on the Uttara to Agargaon section on November 29, 2022, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurating the services a day prior. Similarly, the segment between Agargaon and Motijheel, which started serving passengers on November 5, 2023, was also inaugurated by the Prime Minister the day before its public launch.
