Dhaka, September 02 — The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Moinul Islam, has reaffirmed the Bangladesh Police's commitment to ensuring the security of all citizens, including minority communities. This assurance was made during a courtesy meeting with the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement held at the police headquarters in Dhaka on Monday.
During the meeting, student leaders raised serious concerns about recent incidents of vandalism and sporadic attacks on the homes of minority communities in several border areas, including Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, and Jessore. They urged the police to take immediate and effective measures to protect these vulnerable communities.
Responding to these concerns, IGP Moinul Islam stated that the police headquarters had already issued instructions to relevant units to thoroughly investigate every incident of attacks on minorities with due importance. He confirmed that the police are committed to arresting the perpetrators of such heinous activities and taking necessary legal actions against them. Furthermore, he assured that all steps would be taken to ensure the safety and security of the victims and their families.
"The Bangladesh Police is fully committed to providing comprehensive security to all citizens, including minority communities," said IGP Moinul Islam. He also sought the cooperation of the people involved in the anti-discrimination student movement, as well as members of different social classes and professions, to maintain peace and security across the country.
The IGP urged anyone who witnesses or experiences such incidents to immediately file a complaint at the nearest police station. He stressed the importance of prompt reporting to enable swift police action and prevent further attacks.
This proactive approach by the Bangladesh Police comes in response to increasing concerns over the safety of minority communities in border regions. The assurance from the IGP aims to reinforce public confidence in law enforcement agencies and their dedication to maintaining law and order throughout the country.
The meeting concluded with a call for unity and collaboration among all segments of society to safeguard the rights and safety of all citizens, particularly those belonging to minority groups.
