Sept 20, V7N- Shanghai experienced significant flooding on Friday after being struck by Typhoon Pulasan, its second major storm within a few days. Pulasan made landfall in Fengxian district, with winds reaching up to 83 kilometers per hour (23 meters per second). Though the storm is weakening as it moves inland, heavy rainfall continued throughout the city, causing localized flooding.

Videos shared on social media showed residents wading through water in several neighborhoods. No severe damage or casualties have been reported yet, but parts of the city heightened their typhoon alert levels in anticipation of the storm.

Earlier in the week, Typhoon Bebinca, the strongest storm to hit Shanghai in 75 years, caused widespread disruption. It toppled over 1,800 trees, left 30,000 households without power, and forced the evacuation of 400,000 residents.

The increasing frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events are attributed to climate change, with scientists highlighting the role of greenhouse gas emissions in amplifying these conditions. China, the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, faces mounting pressure to address its environmental impact, even as its per capita emissions remain lower than those of the United States.
