Panchagarh, Apr 18 (V7N)- Banglabandha Land Port, the only quadrilateral land port in Bangladesh, has recently seen a boost in potato exports. On April 17, a total of 273 metric tons of potatoes were exported to Nepal through the port, marking an important milestone in the growing trade.
According to Quarantine Inspector Ujjwal Hossain of the Plant Quarantine Center at Banglabandha Land Port, the exported potatoes were sent via Fulbari, India. This export follows an earlier shipment of 147 metric tons on April 10, bringing the total exports to 4,494 metric tons to date.
The potatoes are sourced from various regions, including Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, and Rangpur divisions, where high-quality potatoes are harvested. After thorough testing, the potatoes are being exported to Nepal by several local exporters, including Thinks to Supply, Hussain Enterprise, Swadhin Enterprise, and Karos Agro Concern of the MRJN Group.
Abul Kalam Azad, Manager of Banglabandha Land Port Limited, highlighted that while a variety of products are regularly imported and exported through the port, the export of potatoes is a new addition. He further mentioned that this new trade initiative is benefiting both traders and farmers, while also contributing to government revenue.
The increasing export of potatoes from Bangladesh to Nepal through Banglabandha is seen as a positive development for the local agricultural industry and trade.
