Teknaf, Nov 27 (V7N) – An NGO worker, Nurul Islam, was rescued on Tuesday after being held hostage for five days by a group of armed hill robbers in the western Leda area of Hnila Union, Teknaf Upazila. Nurul Islam returned home following the payment of Tk 12 lakh in ransom, confirmed by his son, Kamal Hossain.

The kidnapping occurred on the night of November 21, when a group of 20–30 armed assailants stormed Nurul Islam’s home and abducted him in a film-style attack. Over the subsequent five days, his family was contacted by the kidnappers, who initially demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh. After multiple rounds of negotiation, the amount was reduced, and Nurul Islam was released following the payment of Tk 12 lakh.

During the period of his captivity, police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) teams conducted coordinated search operations across the Teknaf hills to locate and rescue him.

Upon his return, Nurul Islam was greeted by family members and neighbors, though he remains physically and mentally affected due to the ordeal. The incident has caused widespread fear and anxiety in the area, with locals urging authorities to take strict measures to prevent future kidnappings and extortion.

Authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, and community leaders are calling for enhanced security measures in the region.
