Dhaka, Apr 28 (V7N) – The disappearance of brick kiln trader Javed Hossain, 35, from Chatkhil Upazila in Noakhali has remained unresolved for over a year, deepening concern and mystery around the case. His family alleges that he was abducted, killed, and his body destroyed to eliminate evidence, though authorities have yet to confirm these claims.
According to family members and local sources, Javed was called out of his home on the afternoon of March 13, 2025, under the pretext of a business meeting. He never returned, and his mobile phone was later found switched off, raising immediate suspicion.

Initially treated as a missing person case, concerns of abduction and murder intensified over time as no trace of him was found despite local search efforts.
Residents say the region has long experienced disputes and violence linked to brick kilns, land grabbing, and soil extraction. Control over these businesses has often led to clashes between influential groups, involving extortion, threats, and attacks. Similar incidents in and around Chatkhil in the past have led many to view Javed’s disappearance within this broader context.
The family claims that shortly after his disappearance, reports circulated locally suggesting Javed had been killed and his body burned at a brick kiln in the Nahar Khal area to destroy evidence. While no official confirmation has been made, the family says multiple local sources have indicated similar accounts.
Previous reports from the region have also highlighted allegations of bodies being concealed or destroyed after killing, contributing to widespread fear among residents. Organized criminal activity has long been cited as a factor behind such incidents.
The family alleges that despite initially contacting local police, there was little visible action taken. A case was later filed in court, but even after a prolonged period, there has been no significant progress in the investigation. No suspects have been arrested, and neither the body nor key evidence has been recovered, raising questions about the role of law enforcement.
Locals claim that some of the accused individuals are influential, discouraging witnesses from coming forward, which has hindered the investigation.
The family also reports receiving threats since the disappearance. Javed’s wife, Sharmin Akter Rupa, is now living in fear with their three children, facing severe uncertainty and insecurity. Due to ongoing threats, they have been forced to move between locations.
At a press conference held on Wednesday at the Sagar-Runi Hall of the Dhaka Reporters Unity, Rupa alleged that her husband was killed and his body burned at a brick kiln. She named individuals she believes are responsible and demanded justice.
“I am living in fear with my children. When I seek justice, we are threatened with death,” she said, urging authorities to ensure a fair and swift investigation.
The family has called for an impartial probe, requesting that elite Investigation agencies such as RAB or PBI take over the case to uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.
