Sylhet, Sep 07 (V7N)— The Khadim (caretaker) of the Shah Paran Shrine in Sylhet, Syed Kabul Ahmad, has announced a complete ban on all music and entertainment activities traditionally associated with the annual Ors celebration. The decision comes in response to increasing concerns over anti-social activities, including singing, dancing, and other forms of entertainment that had become part of the festivities.

Khadim Syed Kabul Ahmad stated, "We have declared a full ban on music and entertainment during Ors. No one is allowed to bring musical instruments, and from now on, Thursday music sessions will be stopped. If anyone attempts to engage in these activities, we will resist it."

The move follows a human chain protest by local students and members of the community, who demanded an end to what they described as "anti-social and immoral activities" such as singing, dancing, alcohol consumption, and gambling during the shrine's events.

The annual three-day Ors, traditionally held on the 4th, 5th, and 6th of Rabiul Awal, has long been a major event, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country. While the official program includes Quran recitations, zikir, milad mahfil, and other religious activities, musical performances and gatherings have often taken place outside the shrine’s designated schedule.

Local authorities, including Ward No. 33 Councillor Delwar Hossain, have expressed support for the ban. "We have held meetings on the matter and decided to stop music and drug consumption at the Shah Paran Shrine. Law enforcement will assist in enforcing the ban, and a committee will be formed, including Muslim leaders, students, and scholars, to oversee the implementation."

The decision marks a significant change in the way the Ors will be observed in the future, with a renewed focus on religious practices and community order.
